Insuring Your Motorhome or RV

Loading ....

Are you an RV owner or would you like to buy one in the near future? If you are considering purchasing an RV, you will need to insure your motorhome or RV. RV insurance is important, in a number of different ways.

Although we all know that RV insurance is important to have, you may be wondering what kind of policy you should be in the market for. If you are, you will find that there are a number of different types of specially designed RV policies. Just a few of the many RV insurance coverage issues are outlined below.

One of the many things that RV insurance should cover is an accident. If you are involved in an accident, your RV may suffer damage. Without insurance, you would be responsible for the cost of all damages and repairs, with an insurance policy you will only need to pay a deductible and your insurance company will cover the cost of the rest of the repairs.

In addition to helping to cover the cost of your repairs, having insurance can also help you if you damage another vehicle. If you damage another vehicle in an accident, your insurance company will help to cover the damage to any of the other vehicles involved. Also, if any of the other vehicle’s occupants suffered injuries in the accident, your insurance company will help to cover their medical expenses. This can save you a considerable amount of money in the long run. If you are involved in an automobile accident and you are at fault and without insurance, you may be sued. Having RV insurance can protect you and your wallet.

How to find the Right Insurance

Another one of the many reasons why insurance is important is because it is actually required, by law, in most states. Before buying a RV, you may want to see if your state requires that you have motorhome or RV insurance. It is important to make sure that you can afford the cost of adequately covering your motorhome or RV with insurance before buying one.

Make sure to buy an insurance policy that covers the appliances and personal belongings in your RV. You should have a policy that will replace your watches, laptops, clothing (in other words, personal items) in case of fire. I live full-time in my motorhome and everything I own is in the coach. I have a policy that covers my personal items through National General. You need to do your due diligence and not just accept a policy because it is cheap.

If you are just looking to buy a motorhome or if your current motorhome is uninsured, you will want to get an insurance policy for it right away. You should be able to find a number of insurance companies by doing a standard internet search. Before doing business with a new insurance company, you may want to see if your current insurance company, like the one that insures your home or your car, offers RV insurance. Many insurance companies offer discounts to those who carry multiple polices, National General covers may motorhome and the Jeep that I tow.

In short, RV insurance is important. If your motorhome is not required to be insured by law, you will still want to think about buying coverage for it. A proper insurance policy can protect your RV and your wallet. One last thought, if you are a Full Time RVer like I am, make sure you pick an insurance company that still covers you if you live in your RV.
